Mad Men and Eastman

I spent today with Amanda, a freshman flutist from Pennsylvania who lives a few doors down from me.  We began the day with a trip to Angelo's, where we collectively ordered deep fried French toast, made with their famous raisin toast and served with blueberries, strawberries, and whipped cream; chocolate chip pancakes, also with whipped cream (you only go around once); a side of bacon, which we decided was going to be sausage, but I momentarily forgot when I was ordering; and fresh-squeezed orange juice.  SO delicious.  We somehow wasted away an entire day, including watching Mamma Mia!, going shopping, picking up some of my graded artwork and my SAI Secret Santa gift, cleaning my room, eating dinner, and going to the Eastman Wind Ensemble Concert at Hill Auditorium.

For those who don't know, the Eastman Conservatory wind ensemble is the premier college wind ensemble in the country.  The concert was pretty incredible, including a world premier of a piece called RIFFS! featuring their percussion professor on drum set.  I recognized one of the bassoonists (I would), Kara LaMoure, who grew up in Plano and studied with my private teacher.

When we were at Borders today, I happened to spot a Mad Men calendar.  I certainly don't have time to watch T.V., but Dr. Lyman is obsessed with that show (he frequently refers to the vintage furniture, strikingly similar to his own "mid-century modern"), so I texted Christian (from the studio), who agreed to give it to him as a joint gift.  I had it gift-wrapped in the store by donating $1 to a children's hospital, but the girl did a less-than-stellar job, so I made a note of who wrapped it under Christian's and my names.

Enjoy the pictures.

I had to decorate it somehow, because you could read "Mad Men" through the paper.

This was part of an art project that I got back today. I'm offering it to Dr. Lyman.

  1. Yum to the pancakes and french toast!! If Dr. Lyman doesn't snatch it right up I'd like it! Maybe you could wrap presents for others next year to bring in a little income! :)
