I had my first jury today! I think it went pretty well, but I was irritated going into it because I had to start with my technical etude instead of the slow movement of Vivaldi, which was totally going to be my selling point for the flute and oboe professors. They were running early, and my pianist wasn't even there yet, so I had to start with the unaccompanied piece. I flubbed around in the same spot in the Milde etude where I had been flubbing around in lessons, which annoyed me, but I blame it on the fact that I was irritated. The slow movement sounded good, and the fast movement was acceptable, although there were some parts that weren't as clean as I would have liked. I formally met the flute and oboe professors, and they asked me about who I studied with in Atlanta, and I hate that question, because I didn't really study with anyone in particular last year, but that question is inevitable. When I finished, Lyman muttered, "Excellent," although you wouldn't have guessed it by the look on his face, but he always looks intense, so at least he said something. He's supposed to email me my comments. Unlike the flute professor, who hands her students their comment sheets right after they perform. Ahem ...
Tonight, my core group had a pizza party at Anne's (our leader's) house, where we pretty much just sat around talking about our families' Christmas traditions. When we walked in the door, she had a pair of warm socks for each of us as we sat in front of the fire. Only in Michigan, where it's nineteen degrees outside. Anne read Christmas "miracle" stories, the kind that you get in those obnoxious chain emails where the font is six sizes too big. Good times.
I'm signing off early, because I'm exhausted and because I'm getting up to go to Angelo's with Amanda tomorrow.
Peace.

Well, I'm glad Lyman said "excellent" and I'm sure you're going to have done absolutely fantastically on you jury. As for the warm socks, amazing!! Sounds like you had a good time. And you best be catching up on sleep because we're going to wear you out on Saturday. 2 days! <3
ReplyDeleteI wear socks 24/7 and no-one here seems to want to follow the tradition!
