This morning, I stepped outside and found my cell phone peeking out from the snow. It had been there for THREE. DAYS.
Monday afternoon, my cell phone disappeared between the time I left my room to go to rehearsal and about halfway through rehearsal. I knew the hour during which I lost it and the general area of where it could be; I knew it was still turned on, and no one else had been using it. I had scoured my room and the school of music numerous times, so I was fairly certain it was either dying of frostbite or in the hands of a stranger. By the grace of God, we're having a heat wave (highs in the upper 30s!), so the snow is melting! One can only brush through so much snow on that hill before deciding to wait for it to melt.
In other news: Yesterday, I had a meeting with my A&D Career Advisor, and as I was waiting for him to finish with another student, Joanne, one of the other advisors, passed by. Joanne is one of my favorite people in the whole world, and I could count on one hand the number of times I've actually had substantial interaction with her. She reminds me a lot of Edna Mode from The Incredibles, has thick, Coke bottle glasses, and has the most blunt, sarcastic, wonderful sense of humor I've encountered. "Hi, how are you?" she asked. "Wonderful, how about you?" I replied. She stopped walking, squinted at me, and said, "Is everything REALLY wonderful?" Emily: "Well, no ... I mean, I'm taking like 21 hours ... " Joanne: "God in HEAVEN!! No WONDER you look so old!!!!!"
We proceeded to chat about my majors (she remembers me from all of the havoc I wreak in the advising department and because she, also, used to live in Georgia), and she began to tell me that yes, she's musically talented, too. She plays several instruments. Like the radio.
Then John, my career advisor, almost made me cry. John Luther is also one of my favorite people in the whole world. He is the most flaming gay man I have ever met, I knew from the first time I spoke with him over the phone last summer. He has numerous ear piercings and is completely bald except for a tiny patch of long hair braided down the back left of his scalp. He was a dancer and also has background in musical theatre. He always goes above and beyond to help me work out a my schedule and is frustrated by the stubbornness of the Music department. After discussing the two or three things I needed to ask him about, he said, "Emily, it is always such a pleasure to see you." He reiterated his desire to help me do whatever I want to do, and he said, "If you're happy, I'll be happy, and if you're sad, I'll be sad ..." Reason #42075349753294875623 why I came here.
I have a full day ahead and still need to prepare for my Rec Sports interview tomorrow. I am so excited!
Take care,
eb

SO THANKFUL you found your phone!! Glad you lost it at the beginning of the week; if it had been later you may have already replaced it! Praying for your interview tomorrow!!
ReplyDeleteHooray for finding your phone!!Do I get credit for the most missed calls? ;) And I love your stories about Joanne!! I thought you were looking a little old Emily...we'll have to fix that this summer...no learning (well, not much at least). Anywho, John is absolutely precious! That was so sweet of him, you're advisors are so much cooler than ours, I'm jealous!! Once again, so happy you found your phone! :D <3
