I did it.
I didn't want to do it, but I did it.
I feel like I'm reliving the MySpace dream, but then I was one of those people who spent more time designing the layout of my account than using the site for social networking. Anyway, it has come to my attention that, while some loyal readers actually do plow through those emails which rival my tuition bill in length, those emails are just plain inconvenient. I didn't feel right creating a web site on which I described what Bursley was serving for lunch that day or which new movie I think is particularly atrocious, but I thought that a blog could serve the dual purpose of forcing myself to breathe for at least fifteen minutes a day and allowing the people on my email list the opportunity of occasionally dropping in to see what I've been up to, rather than watching their inboxes become increasingly cluttered. Once I got going, I felt like Julie Powell (the woman who became famous for blogging about Julia Child, as portrayed in the movie Julie & Julia) and imagined setting up a PayPal account for people to contribute to my college education when my blog became popular enough.
So, although you may not feel led to contribute monetarily (no, I didn't actually set up a PayPal account), you have the option of clicking the button that corresponds to your reaction and/or leaving a comment. You don't have to have a Blogger account to comment. Anyone can. That means you.
Choosing a name to represent the essence of my existence was a tad overwhelming, and after discarding 'Gypsy Road' (evidently, the name of a horrific vintage rock 'n' roll band) and 'Con Brio' (an Italian term, often used in music, which means "with spirit, with fire, with spirit and force, with vigour, with brilliancy, sprightly"), I settled on a more euphonic title referring to the Billy Joel song that satisfactorily relates to my life. I was going to use 'A Gypsy Diary' for the subtitle, but, for the sake of an uncluttered visual composition, I demoted it to the title of my first entry.
Rather than embarking on another novel, I'm going to leave you with this. Don't hesitate to leave questions, comments, feelings, concerns, or suggestions. For all we know, you could be in a movie someday.
