C'est la Vie

Hello again, World.  Much has happened since I last wrote, and I hope your Christmas season has been as joy-filled as mine.  As always, I cherished the time I had with my wonderful siblings, and I got to enjoy my precious 3½-year-old niece and listen to her read like a fourth-grader.  I celebrated my grandmother's 84th birthday with cousins, and we remembered the life of my sweet puppy.

Stewie, named after my childhood friend Stewart, was put to sleep on the afternoon of December 22nd.  Many of you may not have had a clue that I had a dog, because shortly after I got him for my eighth birthday, he went to live with my grandparents, who needed a friend much more than I did.  Stewie was a toy poodle, but we didn't give him a poodle cut, so he was just an adorable, scruffy white bundle of energy.  I hardly saw him after we moved, but somehow missing him has been as hard for me as if I had been there to grow old with him.  He was my baby, and I am so grateful that he hung on so I could see him one more time.

While in Dallas, I got to catch up with four of my best friends from Plano and hear about the paths their lives have taken.  It's strange to have known them for so long, but to have missed out on the years when we became who we are; it's like every time I see them, I meet these new beautiful women who I instantly become best friends with.  No matter how different we become, we make each other make sense.

On the way home, my parents and I enjoyed a delightful visit with my mom's Aunt Jill in Jackson, MS.  We shared cornbread and chili, and Jill and I stayed up late watching HGTV.  Since I've been back in A-town, I've gotten to spend more quality time with my best friends, and--can you believe it--I even practiced!

I'm looking forward to "bringin' in twenty-ten" with my friends tomorrow night as we host a mocktail party at my friend Mikey's house.  Frank Sinatra, ties, cocktail dresses, the whole enchilada.  May each of you have a special time with your family and remember the One who made it all possible.

  1. I missed you while you were in Texas, but I'm glad you had fun visiting your family and catching up with old friends. I'm sorry about your puppy, though. So happy you're home and can't wait for New Year's tonight!! <3

  2. The 21st century encompassed most of Stewie's life; he sure gave us so many, many wonderful memories. Remember when we first got him (before he went to live with Nana and PaPa) and I usesd to put him under your quilt on your bed and he ran 'round and 'round till he found a way out? Hilarious!
